The Mayor of Tamale, Hon. Sule Salifu today embarked on a day’s working visit to the Tamale central Abattoir. The visit was on a fact-finding mission to establish among other things the prevailing working conditions at the Abattoir as well as its operational challenges.
He was in the company of the MCD, Mr Gilbert B Nuuri-Teg, the Metropolitan Environmental Health and Sanitation Officer, Hajia Sumaya Alhassan as well as Mr Peter Dawuni of Zoomlion Company Ltd among other officials of the Assembly.
At the well patronized forum, the Butchers outlined a number of operational challenges confronting them including but not limited to lack of working gear, poor lightening systems, lack of pavement blocks Or concrete floor, lack of meat delivery van and lack of functional gates accounting for smokers invading the premises.
Responding to the concerns, Hon Sule Salifu promised to deliver a rehabilitated delivery van to the leadership of the Abattoir in the coming days. He however emphasized the need for consistent engagement between management of the Assembly and the leadership of the Butchers in our collective effort to addressing the outlined challenges confronting the facility.
The Mayor was sad to learn that the only supposedly mechanized borehole at the Abattoir has never pumped water since it’s construction. He assured the Butchers of the Assembly’s unwavering support to change the face of the facility and ultimately enhance trade activities at the Abattoir.
He appealed for a concerted effort of the generality of the meat industry players in addressing the numerous challenges of the facility.
Mayor Sule and his entourage were subsequently conducted round the facility for first hand information about the current state of the facility.
