SANITATION DAY” EVENT HELD TODAY IN TAMALE, JULY, 2021

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has today, the 3rd of July, 2021 organized a successful clean-up exercise in Tamale. The exercise was in pursuance to the Northern Regional Coordinating Council’s directive to all MMDAs to organize monthly routine clean up exercise dubbed operation clean Northern Region Campaign.

Accordingly, every last Saturday of the month is set forth as a sanitation day.

The exercise for the month of June, 2021 which should have been held on the 26th was disrupted by torrential rain thereby pushing it to the ensuing week which fell on Saturday, the 3rd of July 2021.

This latest exercise was the second in the series, aimed at complementing ongoing efforts to clear filth and ultimately making the city of Tamale a clean one.

Like the maiden exercise, this one targeted yet another public place, Tamale Aboabo market, which was reportedly in a deplorable condition relative to sanitation.

The Northern Regional Minister Hon. Alhaji Saani Shaibu Alhassan was unhappy with the prevailing sanitation condition in the market. He was in the company of the Metropolitan Coordinating Director for the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Mr Gilbert B Nuuri-Teg.

He therefore charged the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Assembly to consider deploying personnel in the coming days, to the markets so as to monitor compliance and consequently process offending individuals for prosecution in the established sanitation courts. This in his view would be detering enough to guarantee sustenance of the sanitation program in the metropolis and beyond.

The occasion was used to acknowledge individuals and corporate entities such as Managing Director of Picorna Hotel, Management of Goil, Voltic Mineral water, Catholic Relief Services, CRS and Zoom lion company for their contributions towards the success of the exercise.

The assembly was also grateful to their media partners for their individual and collective efforts at promoting the sanitation day initiative.
