Assembly members of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly have voted to confirm Mr. Sule Salifu, the President’s nominee for the position of Metropolitan Chief Executive.
Out of the 59 assembly members who took part in the poll, 17 of them voted against him, with 40 others representing a 68% on the other hand confirming President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee.
Per the confirmation rules, a nominee is supposed to garner two-thirds of the total votes of the assembly members.
Out of the 16 persons nominated by the President for the positions of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) in the Northern Region, Mr Sule Salifu is the 10th entrants to be confirmed since the process to confirm the nominees began in the region last Friday, September 24,2021.
In his acceptance remarks, the newly nominated and confirmed mayor of Tamale expressed his gratitudes to the members for the overwhelming endorsement and promised his tenure will bring development to the people.
He meanwhile made an assurance of an open-door administration, with a call on everyone to come on board to help the assembly deliver its mandate .
All nominated MMDCEs have to be voted for by assembly members in their various MMDAs before they will be issued with appointment letters.
The confirmations are being done within a 21-day window.
The Northern Regional Coordinating Council, which began the processes on Friday Sep 24,2021 is said to climax on Tuesday Oct 5,2021 the confirmation of the president’s MMDCE nominees in the region.
Other regional coordinating councils also have similar schedules for the confirmation of the various MMDCEs appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last week.
