The Mayor of Tamale, Hon. Sule Salifu was today at the Sheikh Aminu Sawaaba’s Mosque, affectionately called ‘hilala mosque’ to observe the Jummah prayers.
The visit formed part of his familiarization tour of key mosques in Tamale township.
Addressing the congregants after the prayer session, Hon. Sule Salifu outlined just a few of his priority areas to help bridge the development gaps in the metropolis. He mentioned in particular his administration’s determination to deal with the sanitation menace. Mayor Sule announced his intention to collaborate with key stakeholders and partners in the sanitation value chains to evacuate heaps of refuse dumps across the city of Tamale and to create the enabling environment for waste collection and safe disposal to final disposal site at Gballahi,a suburb of Tamale. Going forward, Hon. Sule hinted plans to replicate the piloted pay- as- you- dump policy across the metropolis. This he noted, is aimed at ensuring evacuation of communal waste containers at regular intervals.
Other areas of development gaps such as poor street lightening system, isolated incidents of insecurity, amongst others, featured prominently in his address to the brethren.
The leader of the Tijaniyya sect in that community who doubled as the Imam , Sheikh Aminu Sawaaba, expressed gratitude to the Mayor for the visit and for sharing with them, his development agenda. He offered special prayer support for God’s grace to prosecute this lofty- looking development ideas shared by the Mayor. Sheikh Amin therefore called for concerted effort of all to help drive this agenda.
