The Tamale Metro Assembly has, in collaboration with Zoomlion company Ltd, secured and distributed significant quantities of communal containers and other waste bins to chop bar operators, restaurants and shop owners in the city of Tamale.
This latest deployment forms part of ongoing efforts of the Assembly, to create the enabling environment for the enforcement of Assembly’s bye laws in dealing with the sanitation menace in the metropolis . Addressing the media during the presentation, Hon. Sule Salifu reiterated his renewed commitment to change the face of sanitation across the metropolis. He called for stronger collaboration with the media in making the habit of the indiscriminate disposal of waste unattractive to the citizenry.
Earlier, the Mayor paid courtesy calls on the Chiefs of Nyohini at separate times at their respective palaces ahead of the distribution. Hon. Sule Salifu was in the company of the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr Gilbert B Nuuri-Teg together with 2 of his deputies. Other officials included, Head of Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Assembly, the Head of waste management department of the Assembly as well as officials of sanitation giants, Zoomlion company Ltd among other personalities.
He used the occasion to appeal to the traditional authorities to cooperate with the Assembly and indeed Government to get rid of the filth in Tamale and its environs.
The Chiefs commended the Mayor for the initiative and pledged their support for the realization of the dream of making the city of Tamale the cleanest and a sanitation model for the rest of the MMDAs in the region and beyond.
