The mayor of Tamale, Hon Alhaji Abu Takoro has launched a district-wide mass evacuation of refuse dumps.
The initiative forms part of a comprehensive plans and strategies aimed at improving our urban sanitation situation.
In a related development, Hon Abu Takoro launched a sanitation program dubbed : night sanitation, an urban sanitation approach by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly that is targeting mainly the CBD of Tamale .

The initiative is in line with the 24 hour economy policy initiative of government.
About 60 personnel (men and women) have been recruited and deployed in the catchment area
The decision to recruit these numbers has become necessary following the suspension of the sanitation module of the Youth Employment Authority
The night sanitation program has since started making huge impact on efforts to keep the city of Tamale clean.
