
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources Was in Tamale on a Fact-finding Mission.
On arrival in Tamale, the Committee, led by its chairman, Hon John Oti Bless, paid a courtesy call on the mayor of Tamale ,Hon.Alhaji Abu Takoro.
The mayor, in the company of his counterpart for the Sagnerigu Municipal, Assembly, Hon. Imoro Abdulai Gong, was full of gratitude to the Committee for the honour. He used the occasion to brief the committee on ongoing sanitation intervention efforts that he has so far made in line with the directives of President John Dramani Mahama towards improving public health and quality of life through sanitation.

Hon. Takoro highlighted key interventions such as procurement and deployment of critical sanitation logistics including tricycles to support the night-time cleaning under the recently launched night sanitation initiative. The mayor was also happy to report on the mass refuse evacuation exercise, which exercise targeted communities with large volumes of waste that have been left unattended to for a long time.
The committee subsequently held an interactive session with key players in the sanitation value chain during which valuable contributions were shared as inputs to help improve and consolidate the gains so far.
Meanwhile, earlier today,17th September, 2025, the mayor had the honour of receiving in his office, 2 prominent traditional rulers at separate times, namely,Naa Prince Iddrisu Williams Andani-Chief of Moglaa and the Chief of Wapule.
Their discussions focused on development issues and concerns within the metropolis and the need to promote unity of purpose,peace and peaceful coexistence in our communities.

Hon. Abu Takoro expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the gesture and promised to foster good working relations with the traditional authorities aimed at boosting local participation in our local governance process.

The Waste Management Department of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has in collaboration with the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Assembly and the Sustainable Cities( key development partner) organised series of cleanup exercise and health screening in a number of communities in the metropolis including Nyohini south,a suburb of Tamale.
The exercise seeks to promote environmental cleanliness, improve good hygiene practices and good health among the people of the metropolis.
