TaMA REMOVES BEGGERS FROM THE PRINCIPAL STREETS OF THE CBG

On Wednesday, 24th June 2026, the Mayor of Tamale, Hon. Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro, led the security taskforce to enforce the Assembly’s directive on the removal of street beggars from designated areas within the Central Business District of Tamale.

The exercise covered the Taxi Rank–Azoka corridor, areas beneath the Tamale Overpass, and the ceremonial routes leading to the Northern Regional Coordinating Council. This intervention forms part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to restore order, enhance security and public safety, improve environmental sanitation, and preserve the dignity of the metropolis.

The presence of beggars along the major roads poses risks to the individuals involved as well as to motorists.
It has also contributed to congestion and undermined efforts aimed at maintaining a clean, orderly, and well-planned urban environment.

As a responsible local authority, the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly remains committed to implementing measures that promote law and order while ensuring the sustainable development of our city.

All persons affected by this operation are urged to cooperate fully with the Assembly as it works collectively towards its vision of making Greater Tamale clean, safe, orderly, and modern.

The transformation of Tamale is a shared responsibility, and together we can build a city that reflects the aspirations of its people and serves as a model for urban development in Ghana.
