The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly held an emergency General Assembly Meeting yesterday, Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Assembly’s Auditorium to address pressing concerns over the encroachment and alleged looting of state lands in parts of the metropolis, as well as to deliberate on plans for a demolition exercise.

The meeting provided an avenue for Hon. Assembly Members to deliberate extensively on the growing concerns regarding the unlawful encroachment and looting of state lands within sections of the metropolis. Members emphasized the need to safeguard public lands for present and future development projects and unanimously agreed on the importance of taking decisive action.

In line with this, the Assembly resolved to carry out a demolition exercise at Parks and gardens and in front of the official residence of the Metropolitan Coordinating Director.
This is aimed at reclaiming such lands and restoring order. The Assembly further resolved to engage all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the exercise is carried out in a fair, transparent, and effective manner.
