METROPOLITAN ASSEMBLY ORDERS TRADERS OFF PAVEMENTS FOR WEEKEND CLEAN-UP IN CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT.

The Metropolitan Assembly has directed all traders and transport operators who display wares under overheads and on road pavements to vacate those spaces on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April, 2026. The move is intended to pave way for a thorough cleaning of the Central Business District and ensure the free flow of traffic over the weekend.
According to an announcement signed by Metropolitan Coordinating Director Jimah Yakubu, all shop and house owners are also expected to clear, clean, and distil drains at their frontage on Friday and Saturday early morning. The Assembly said it will deploy a taskforce to enforce compliance, warning that any individual or group who fails to comply will face the full rigors of the law.
Management has appealed to the clergy, Moslem clerics, traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and Hon. Assembly Members to support the directive by extending the announcement to their congregations and communities. The notice was also addressed to all media houses, ISD, NCCE, PRO, Market Queen, religious leaders, and traditional authorities to aid in public sensitization.
The two-day exercise forms part of efforts to improve sanitation and decongest the Central Business District. Residents and business operators have been urged to cooperate fully with the Assembly’s taskforce to ensure the clean-up achieves its intended impact.
